What is Suricat?

suricat.eu allows you to monitor your website or online service (web service, FTP, etc.) from a decentralized platform, without installation on your server.

suricat.eu regularly checks that your website or web service is available, responds quickly enough, and that the response returned is the one expected.

The Suricat software, hosted on our platform or by one of the network members, is synchronized across the network and queries your online service at regular intervals. As soon as a malfunction occurs, an alert is sent to suricat.eu and you can be notified by email or SMS.

How do I join the Suricat network?

To join the Suricat network, simply register with an email address and password. Your email address will not be sold or used for any purpose other than urgent communications relating to your activity on the Suricat network. To monitor your web service, follow these steps:

Why did we choose the name “Suricat”?

The Suricat network is based on solidarity among network users. It is the “free” users (those who do not subscribe to a paid service) who monitor the services of network members. When a Suricat program is shut down, the other programs in the network take over monitoring the network. This solidarity is similar to that which unites a group of meerkats.

These animals (Suricata suricatta) live in groups of around twenty individuals in the plains of southern Africa. They dig the ground to search for food and to build burrows. While most individuals search for insects and larvae in the ground, a few sentinels stand on their hind legs to watch the surroundings and warn the group of predators (such as birds of prey) with warning cries.

These animals are called “desert sentinels.”

Our job is to build a redundant, robust network capable of monitoring your services accessible on the Internet; every user of the network should find it beneficial.
